SERIAL KILLER: Rodney Alcala

Something truly horrific happened during the 70s when women began turning up dead, strangled with their own clothing.   Taking it back to when Raoul Alcala Buquor and Anna Maria Gutierrez had their first little boy, on August 23 1943, the couple welcomed Rodrigo Jacques Alcala Buquor (Rodney Alcala) in San Antonio, Texas. The family lived a relatively uneventful life up until 1951 when Raoul packed the family up and moved them to Mexico. Yet three years later and Raoul abandoned his family, leaving Anna with Rodney and his two sisters. The now single mother took her children and moved to suburban Los Angeles, settling down into their new normal. Rodney, at age 17, joined the US Army, serving as a clerk. He was only there for three years before he had an emotional breakdown that led him to hitchhike to his mother’s home, going AWOL. Shortly after returning he was diagnosed with Antisocial Personality Disorder and was medically discharged from his service. After hi...

MURDERED: Dorothy Jane Scott

Something truly horrific happened when a woman’s stalking wasn’t taken seriously and it led to her unsolved murder.   Dorothy Jane Scott was a single mother living in Staton, California with her four-year-old son and her aunt. She was described by co-workers as organized and dependable that enjoyed her quiet life at home. Rather than going out with co-workers, Dorothy would spend time with her son and at her local church. She, by choice, didn’t do drugs or drink alcohol which could have been influenced by her religious beliefs. Dorothy worked as a secretary at The Swinger’s Psych Shop and Custom John’s Head Shop, the two shops were connected and sold complimentary items. One sold things that encapsulated psychedelics and the other sold paraphernalia for cannabis and tobacco. The shops were a little over 5 miles from Dorothy’s home, located in Anaheim, whilst she worked her usual shift Dorothy’s parents would take care of her son. It was at her job that Dorothy began to...

MURDERED: Boy in the Box

Something truly horrific happened in 1957 when the body of a young boy was found, discarded in a wooded area in Philadelphia. February 1957 a young man was out checking muskrat traps in the woods just off of Susquehanna Road when he came across a J. C. Penney bassinet box. With just a quick glance inside, the young man was the first to see what is now known as the Boy in the Box. Instead of reporting the body of the young boy, the hunter ignored the body and didn’t report anything to the police. His only reasoning was that he didn’t want the police to confiscate his traps. Just a few days, on February 25th, a college student was driving down Susquehanna Road when he spotted a rabbit running into the woods. With the knowledge that traps littered the area, he chased after the rabbit. He, just like the hunter, stumbled across the box with the boy inside. The college student was hesitant to report and waited until the next day, he called the police after hearing about th...

MASS MURDER: Hinterkaifeck Murders

On March 31st 1922 something truly horrific happened in Gröbern, Germany to the Gruber family.   The Gruber family were murdered in their farmstead and for four days their killer lived in their home. Before the murders took place, the Gruber family went through a strange batch of events. Six months prior to the killings, the family’s maid quit with claims of the house being haunted. She claimed that she had been hearing strange sounds and footsteps from the attic. Along with the auditory, the maid believed that she was being watched inside the home. Andreas Gruber checked the home but found no evidence that backed the maid’s claims, so he simply dismissed her concerns as nothing but superstition. A matter of days before the murders in March 1922, Andreas discovered a newspaper from Munich. He had claimed to friends he didn’t subscribe to the paper and that he asked neighbours who also didn’t subscribe to the paper. That meant it wasn’t a simple mistaken address but see...
